Mechanical Engineer – Plant Reliability & Projects

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team in Johannesburg. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement of mechanical equipment across our manufacturing plant.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support to maintenance and production teams to maximise plant availability.
• Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
• Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime.
• Lead mechanical engineering projects, including equipment upgrades and plant modifications.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
• Manage contractors and service providers during shutdowns and project activities.
• Prepare technical specifications, scopes of work, and engineering reports.
• Monitor equipment performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
• Support capital expenditure projects from concept through commissioning.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc Mechanical Engineering degree.
• Registered ECSA Candidate Engineer or Professional Engineer (advantageous).
• 3–5 years’ experience in manufacturing, heavy‑industrial or related sectors.
• Experience with rotating equipment, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance management principles and reliability engineering.
• Proven project management and continuous‑improvement experience.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems.
