Mechanical Engineer – Oil & Gas Projects

About the role

A well‑established consulting engineering firm in Durban is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design and delivery of oil & gas, petrochemical and related industrial projects. You will work within multidisciplinary teams, handling design, technical investigations and project coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering designs for oil & gas, petrochemical and related projects.
• Design and review piping systems, pump selections, hydraulic and firefighting systems.
• Conduct plant audits, engineering studies, technical investigations and troubleshooting.
• Prepare and review calculations, simulations, specifications, drawings and technical reports.
• Coordinate mechanical engineering activities to meet project schedules, budgets and quality standards.
• Support multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Identify technical risks, design deviations and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with client specifications, safety legislation and ISO management systems.

Required profile

• BSc or BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Relevant design experience in oil & gas, petrochemical or comparable process‑industry environment.
• Experience in engineering project coordination or project management.
• Practical knowledge of industrial piping systems, pump selection and hydraulic design.
• Ability to prepare and review mechanical calculations, specifications and design documentation.
• Understanding of engineering quality, safety and compliance requirements.
• Professional registration with ECSA (advantageous).
