Mechanical Design Engineer – SolidWorks (Alberton)

About the role

Join a leading South African manufacturer of specialised civil engineering and mining laboratory equipment as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will work on the design and development of high‑quality material testing machinery, gaining hands‑on experience with modern product design tools and processes.

Key responsibilities

• Create 3D models, assemblies and detailed technical drawings of new laboratory equipment using SolidWorks.
• Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Materials for each design.
• Design sheet‑metal components and collaborate with workshop machining teams.
• Select appropriate metals, steels and plastics for each part and verify fitting tolerances.
• Communicate technical requirements with suppliers and customers.
• Review and validate designs before they are released to production.

Required profile

• Practical proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modelling and drawing creation.
• Basic understanding of sheet‑metal design and standard manufacturing methods.
• Good knowledge of industrial materials such as metals and plastics.
• Strong problem‑solving attitude and willingness to learn.
• Competent computer literacy, including MS Office.
• Positive, dynamic attitude and ability to work well in a team.
