Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

A leading global engineering organisation in the mining and minerals processing sector is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Gauteng engineering team. The role is ideal for a mechanical engineer with 3‑5 years of post‑graduate design experience who enjoys developing innovative equipment for heavy‑industrial environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and equipment for mining and mineral processing applications.
• Create detailed engineering drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or Siemens NX.
• Perform engineering calculations, design verification and technical analysis.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, projects and operations teams to ensure designs are practical, cost‑effective and manufacturable.
• Support product improvement initiatives to enhance performance, reliability and serviceability.
• Conduct root‑cause investigations and implement engineering solutions to operational challenges.
• Participate in prototype development, testing and product validation activities.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports and engineering change notices.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years post‑graduate mechanical design experience.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals.
• Exposure to manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, welding and assembly.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or Siemens NX (or similar 3D CAD software).
• Ability to interpret and create detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
