Maintenance & Mechanical Shift Leader

About the role

Lead, supervise and coordinate a designated manufacturing or engineering shift team. The Shift Leader is accountable for meeting daily production targets while upholding the highest standards of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) and developing team members for operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the safety champion, conduct daily toolbox talks, risk assessments and drive a Zero Harm culture.
• Achieve or exceed production schedules, OEE targets and manage resources, material logistics and shift handovers.
• Ensure products meet engineering specifications and ISO‑9001 quality standards, lead root‑cause analysis for non‑conformances.
• Liaise with Maintenance to prioritize planned and reactive work, perform first‑line diagnostics and minor adjustments.
• Provide direct supervision, coaching and performance management for operators, technicians and apprentices.
• Lead Lean activities such as 5S, Kaizen and SMED, complete shift documentation and monitor consumable usage.

Required profile

• Trade certificate or diploma in Mechanical Fitting or related field.
• 3‑5 years experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Hands‑on experience with industrial machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical systems.
• Proven ability to meet production/KPI targets and strong understanding of HSE regulations.
• Competent in reading technical drawings and manuals; IT literate with MS Office and ERP/MES systems.
• Relevant qualifications such as NVQ/BTEC Level 3 or a Time‑Served Apprenticeship are desirable.
