About the role
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified Engineering Technician V to coordinate the local agency bridge plan approval process. This position ensures that bridge designs and hydraulic reports meet state standards and that construction permits are processed efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate data for local bridge projects and recommend design improvements.
- Review and approve or disapprove preliminary bridge design and hydraulic reports.
- Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies to secure construction permits and release bridge plans for letting.
- Organize workflow to meet letting schedules and maintain project momentum.
- Communicate policy changes and technical requirements to partner agencies.
Required profile
- Experience in bridge engineering or related civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of design standards, cost‑effectiveness, and hydraulic analysis.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple government agencies and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
