Level 1 IT Support Engineer – Cape Town/Johannesburg

About the role

Solid Systems is looking for a motivated Level 1 IT Professional to join its SOLID Team. This is an entry‑level position that offers fast learning, hands‑on mentorship and the chance to become a trusted first point of contact for client technology needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide friendly, human‑focused first‑line support to clients via phone, email and on‑site visits.
• Diagnose, resolve and own tickets from creation to closure while meeting SLA targets.
• Escalate complex issues with clear documentation of troubleshooting steps.
• Perform routine maintenance checks, proactive improvements and assist with device roll‑outs, onboarding and migrations.
• Maintain accurate ticket, documentation and time‑entry records.
• Identify patterns, suggest improvements and contribute to better ways of working.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in help‑desk, service‑desk or desktop support within a managed‑services environment.
• Relevant IT qualification and Microsoft certifications.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, stay organised and follow defined processes.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel locally for client visits.

Required skills

• Microsoft 365 administration (user management, Exchange Online basics, Teams/SharePoint fundamentals).
• Active Directory management.
• Basic Azure identity concepts.
• Windows desktop support and troubleshooting; macOS support.
• Network fundamentals – LAN/Wi‑Fi, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP.
• Ticketing systems and clear technical note‑taking.
• RMM/PSA tools such as N‑able/N‑central, Autotask, IT Glue.
• Endpoint management with Microsoft Intune.
