About the role

The Department of History at Stellenbosch University seeks a dedicated Lecturer to teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a strong emphasis on Southern African history.

Key responsibilities

Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in history, including lectures, seminars and assessment activities.
Supervise postgraduate research projects and theses, providing academic guidance and mentorship.
Contribute actively to the department’s research, publication and teaching programmes, collaborating with colleagues on scholarly work.
Manage administrative tasks related to teaching and research, such as curriculum development and student advising.

Required profile

PhD in history.
Proven track record in teaching at least one history course or module at tertiary level.
Experience as a postgraduate (co)supervisor.
Research record with at least two published or accepted peer‑reviewed chapters or articles in history.
Relevant administrative and management skills.
Ability to teach and conduct research in a multilingual, multicultural academic environment.
