Lead Technical Design Engineer – Renewable Energy

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Technical Design Engineer to become the technical authority within a leading UK renewable energy specialist. You will guide the design team, work closely with senior leadership, and shape company‑wide design standards while delivering high‑specification renewable energy solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow a team of Design Engineers, ensuring technical excellence.
• Own the full technical design process from sales hand‑over to delivery.
• Collaborate with architects, consultants, developers and clients throughout the design lifecycle.
• Produce detailed Stage 4 and Stage 5 designs for Air Source Heat Pumps, Solar PV, MVHR and full Mechanical & Electrical solutions.
• Perform heat loss/gain calculations and room‑by‑room system sizing.
• Create technical schematics, drawings and specification documents.
• Act as the primary technical advisor to installation teams.
• Manage design workflows, prioritise projects and meet SLA commitments.
• Drive continuous improvement through BIM implementation and process optimisation.
• Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to define technical strategy.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in renewable energy system design.
• Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams.
• Strong communication skills with architects, consultants and clients.
• Track record of delivering complex projects to high standards.
