Lead Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead our mechanical design team in Cape Town. The role involves guiding multidisciplinary engineers, ensuring technical excellence, and delivering complex projects from concept to production.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high‑performing mechanical design team, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
• Manage engineering resources, allocate tasks, and ensure project schedules meet key milestones.
• Interface with customers and stakeholders to capture requirements and deliver compliant engineering solutions.
• Conduct internal and external design reviews, ensuring adherence to specifications and industry standards.
• Develop and review 3D models, engineering drawings, and associated documentation.
• Maintain engineering data within product data management systems and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of post‑graduate mechanical engineering design experience.
• Proven leadership of engineering or design teams.
• Strong project management and resource planning capabilities.
• BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
• South African residency or valid work permit.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD design, including 3D modelling and 2D engineering drawings.
• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
• Use of digital engineering tools to improve design quality and data management.
