Key Account Manager – Massmart & Independent Retail

About the role

Unilever is seeking a Key Account Manager to lead strategic relationships with Massmart and independent retail customers in Durban. The role focuses on driving profitable growth, shaping joint business plans and ensuring flawless execution of Unilever’s commercial strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, leading commercial conversations and negotiations.
• Develop and implement customer business plans aligned with category and channel strategies.
• Drive category growth through assortment optimisation, pricing strategy and promotional planning.
• Own the end‑to‑end sales process including pricing, orders, delivery and related administration.
• Partner with the Unilever Field Sales team to ensure perfect in‑store execution, stock management and claims reduction.
• Monitor and analyse sales performance, using market and shopper data to provide actionable insights.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance and Category teams to deliver customer‑centric solutions.
• Manage business tools and overheads such as vehicle, phone and travel expenses.

Required profile

• A completed degree in a related field.
• 2–3 years of experience in key account management or a similar commercial role.
• Strong strategic thinking combined with operational excellence.
• Proven ability to build relationships and influence business decisions.
