Junior Software Engineer

About the role

Our client is seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer to join their software team. You will work remotely from Cape Town, learning the existing codebase, gathering user data and supporting senior developers and the CTO on a variety of projects.

Key responsibilities

• Learn and contribute to the company’s software products, both new and existing.
• Gather user requirements, provide estimates and deliver features on schedule.
• Assist with coding, design, testing and deployment of applications.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, the CTO and cross‑functional teams.
• Maintain and improve RESTful APIs and database interactions.

Required profile

• BSc Honours degree in a relevant field (top 10% of class preferred).
• 0‑2 years of software engineering experience.
• Self‑motivated, able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with Agile development practices.

Required skills

• C# and ASP.NET Core with Entity Framework.
• JavaScript ES6 and React 17.
• SQL Server for database transactions.
• Git version control (SourceTree preferred).
• AWS Elastic Beanstalk for deployment.
• Trello for workflow management.
• Understanding of RESTful APIs, Clean Code principles, CI/CD pipelines and MVC pattern.
