Junior Developer

About the role

Alexforbes is seeking a motivated Junior Developer to join its Compen Development Team. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience with business‑critical pension and employee benefits systems, working closely with senior developers and business analysts.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the development, enhancement, and maintenance of ACUCOBOL applications.
• Write clean, efficient, and well‑documented code under senior guidance.
• Perform unit testing and support debugging, defect investigation, and resolution.
• Collaborate with senior developers on system enhancements, bug fixes, and ongoing maintenance.
• Work with business analysts to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, team meetings, agile ceremonies, and documentation updates.
• Support testing activities to ensure application quality and compliance with internal standards.

Required profile

• Matriculation plus a relevant IT qualification (degree, diploma or certification).
• 3–4 years of software development experience.
• Exposure to COBOL or ACUCOBOL development (essential).
• Familiarity with financial services or employee benefits systems.
• Comfort with Linux/Unix or command‑line environments.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail skills.
• Willingness to learn, receive feedback and work effectively in a team.
