Junior Buyer – Retail

About the role

This entry‑level position offers a foot‑in‑the‑door opportunity for a motivated individual to start a career in retail buying. You will support the procurement process, manage orders, and ensure stores have the right merchandise to meet customer demand.

Key responsibilities

• Purchase goods from approved vendors, place orders, and monitor supplier lead times.
• Maintain inventory levels, manage open‑to‑buy (OTB), and drive stock turns.
• Analyse sales and product performance to inform buying decisions.
• Provide superior customer service to stores, responding to queries and emails within 24 hours.
• Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers and ensure timely deliveries.
• Gather market intelligence, monitor competitor activity, and support merchandise strategy.
• Coordinate new product launches and promotional activities, ensuring stock availability.
• Handle administrative tasks such as purchase orders, pricing accuracy, daily cash‑up checks, and invoice processing.
• Visit stores regularly to assess execution, resolve issues, and support store teams.
• Prepare and submit reports on sales, stock, promotions, and performance.

Required profile

• Matric qualification.
• 1–2 years experience in buying or 2–3 years administration experience.
• Currently studying or holding a Diploma/Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement, Consumer Science or a related field.
• Organised, proactive, and eager to learn.
• Interest in sports is a plus.
