Job description
About the role
This is a full-time, office-based position in an accounting and auditing company in Tableview, Cape Town. You will take clients from trial balance through to completed annual financial statements, mostly doing compilation work across companies, close corporations, trusts, sole proprietors and non-profit organisations. You will also run independent reviews on selected clients and help Senior Clerks with audit engagements when deadlines call for it. You report to the Audit and Tax Manager.
Key responsibilities
- Compile annual financial statements in line with IFRS for SMEs and ISRS 4410 (Revised).
- Move files from trial balance to finished statements, with lead and supporting schedules properly cross referenced.
- Prepare year-end journals, the current tax computation and the deferred tax calculation and note.
- Reconcile and support every balance sheet line and clear queries with the client directly.
- Apply disclosures correctly for related parties, directors' emoluments, going concern, leases and financial instruments.
- Perform and document independent review engagements under ISRE 2400 (Revised).
- Assist Senior Clerks on audit engagements during peak periods.
- Manage your own client relationships day to day and your time and job budgets.
Required profile
- At least two years in an accounting or auditing practice working across a range of clients.
- Proven experience compiling annual financial statements, not just processing to trial balance.
- Ability to perform an independent review under ISRE 2400 (Revised).
- BCom in Accounting or equivalent qualification at NQF level 6 or higher; a completed SAIPA or SAICA training contract helps, and candidates can be taken on partway through a SAIPA contract.
- Own reliable transport, as this is an office-based position.
- South African citizenship, permanent residence or a valid work permit.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of IFRS for SMEs applied in practice.
- Confidence preparing current and deferred tax computations.
- Solid Excel and the discipline to build schedules others can follow.
