IT Infrastructure Engineer (Contract) – Gauteng/Hybrid

About the role

Our client is looking for an Advanced Infrastructure Engineer to join the core Infrastructure Engineering squad of their global IT Hub. The role focuses on delivering high‑availability Linux solutions that are resilient, encrypted and secure across office and critical production manufacturing environments. You will work as a Linux Client Engineer, combining practical implementation with technical theory to design, automate and maintain standardized Linux client platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and operate standardized Linux client platforms for office and manufacturing production environments, creating base images, software packages and configuration standards.
• Install, configure, administer and support Linux systems across physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures (AWS, Azure).
• Conduct vulnerability assessments, apply remediation measures and manage patch lifecycles.
• Run Incident, Problem and Change (PIC) workflows within an Agile environment.
• Write clean automation scripts (Ansible, Bash, Python) and implement GitOps workflows for config‑as‑code and automated deployments.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands‑on experience with Unix/Linux operating systems (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE).
• Strong expertise in Ansible Automation and Ansible Tower.
• Advanced proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python) and GitHub/GitOps repository management.
• Self‑directed, adaptable professional comfortable working autonomously and collaborating across cross‑functional application, cloud and security squads.
• Experience delivering secure, high‑availability solutions in both on‑premise and public‑cloud environments.
