IT Infrastructure Consultant

About the role

Modaxo is looking for an IT Infrastructure Consultant to design and tailor IT infrastructure architectures that support its public transport technology solutions. The role reports to the Operations Manager, Trapeze Africa, and works within a cross-functional team. It calls for deep expertise in virtualization, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, high availability, networking and hybrid/cloud infrastructure, especially in mission-critical transport environments.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the IT architecture requirements of transport systems (AFC, fare management, fleet management, RTPI, control centre systems) and turn them into client-specific architecture designs.
• Assess client data centres, cloud and network environments, identify gaps and risks, and produce remediation plans.
• Design virtualized server environments (VMware, Hyper-V), hybrid or cloud-hosted deployments (Azure, AWS), and secure network architectures with segmentation, firewalls and remote connectivity.
• Define high-availability, clustering and redundancy strategies, and ensure designs meet cybersecurity best practices, identity management, encryption and data protection requirements (e.g. PCI-DSS).
• Design Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity strategies aligned with RPO and RTO, including backup, replication and failover, and take part in resilience testing.
• Support solution design and bids, present architectures to transport authorities, and work with software, implementation and project teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure architecture and design.
• Proven experience designing infrastructure from defined system technical requirements.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or local South African cloud infrastructure.
• Experience designing high-availability and disaster recovery environments, and strong cybersecurity knowledge.
• Extensive travel within Africa and occasional overseas travel; all air travel is economy class.
