AI Analyst Programmer – Early Career Industrial Engineer

About the role

Old Mutual's Private Clients division, which manages over R80 billion globally for high-net-worth individuals, families and entrepreneurs, is looking for an early-career Industrial Engineer to apply systems thinking, quantitative modelling and AI to real investment and operating problems. The role sits at the intersection of investments and portfolio management, quantitative modelling, technology and AI, operational optimisation and complex problem-solving, and involves building tools and improving decision quality rather than providing support.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain applications software, including fixing defects, designing prototypes and keeping a development roadmap aligned with business needs.
• Diagnose faults, test website and application performance, and write technical and user documentation.
• Recommend technical improvements, implement security measures and scan external developments for their impact on the organisation.
• Analyse data, document current and future processes, and support database design and tuning.
• Support AI integration in investment research, portfolio management and operations, and explore automation.
• Support quantitative analysis, data modelling, forecasting and optimisation, including modelling in Bloomberg and related platforms.
• Analyse workflows, build dashboards and reporting tools, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.

Required profile

• NQF 7 qualification; Industrial Engineering graduate preferred.
• Strong Python capability and strong quantitative and analytical ability.
• Interest in financial markets and wealth management, and comfort in complex, ambiguous environments.
