Internal Audit Senior

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Internal Audit Senior to join our Advisory Services team in Johannesburg. The role involves leading risk‑based audit engagements for a diverse client portfolio, delivering high‑quality audit reports and providing advisory support.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, manage and execute risk‑based internal audit engagements from start‑to‑finish.
• Conduct risk assessments, identify control weaknesses and develop detailed audit programs.
• Assess design, implementation and operating effectiveness of controls and compile comprehensive working papers.
• Draft clear audit findings and recommendations, and present reports to clients and senior stakeholders.
• Provide internal audit consulting, identify process improvement opportunities and drive operational efficiencies.
• Supervise, coach and review the work of junior auditors and trainees.
• Maintain strong client relationships and collaborate to understand business challenges.
• Manage multiple engagements while meeting deadlines and quality standards.

Required profile

• BCom Honours degree in Internal Auditing, Accounting or related field.
• Membership with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA); CIA designation advantageous.
• Minimum 4 years of governance, risk and compliance consulting experience, including at least 2 years in a senior auditor role.
• Proven experience conducting internal audits in financial services (banking, insurance, asset management, fintech, healthcare, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability to lead audit engagements from planning through reporting.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Internal Audit Standards and IIA Standards.
• Understanding of COSO and other risk‑management frameworks.
• Familiarity with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) principles.
• Experience with end‑to‑end internal audit processes.
