Imports and Customs Entry Clerk – Cape Town Airport

About the role

The Imports and Customs Entry Clerk will manage the end‑to‑end import clearing and forwarding process for shipments arriving at Cape Town Airport. You will act as the main liaison between shipping lines, airlines, transporters, overseas agents and clients, ensuring timely customs clearance and delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading and airway bills.
• Coordinate with shipping lines, airlines, transporters and overseas agents to monitor vessel and flight arrivals.
• Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations, entries and supporting documentation.
• Monitor customs releases, resolve clearance issues, and manage any stops or examinations.
• Arrange delivery after customs release and track storage, demurrage and detention costs.
• Communicate shipment status, delays or issues proactively to clients.
• Coordinate export bookings, prepare export documentation and ensure shipments meet cut‑off deadlines.

Required profile

• Matric qualification.
• Previous experience in a clearing and forwarding environment, with strong practical knowledge of import clearing.
• Good understanding of South African Customs and SARS processes, tariff classification and HS codes.
• Experience handling both imports and exports and dealing with shipping lines, airlines, transporters and agents.
• Ability to manage files independently from start to finish.
