Import Forwarding Controller – Freight & Logistics

About the role

Our client, a well‑established freight forwarding and logistics company in Durban, is looking for an experienced Import Forwarding Controller. The role involves managing the complete import forwarding process, ensuring efficient handling of sea and air shipments, accurate documentation, and high‑level customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end import forwarding from booking to final delivery.
• Coordinate sea and air freight imports and liaise with overseas agents, shipping lines, airlines, transporters, and customs teams.
• Monitor shipment progress, communicate updates to clients, and resolve delays or documentation issues.
• Prepare and verify shipping documents such as Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and arrival notices.
• Obtain quotations, negotiate rates, and coordinate deliveries with transport providers and warehouses.
• Process shipment files, invoicing, cost accruals, and profitability analysis.
• Maintain accurate records in the company’s operating system and ensure compliance with customs regulations.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) minimum; freight forwarding or logistics qualification advantageous.
• 3–5 years of experience as an Import Forwarding Controller in a freight forwarding environment.
• Strong knowledge of sea and air import operations and import documentation.
• Familiarity with freight forwarding systems and Incoterms.

Required skills

• Experience with freight forwarding software (e.g., CargoWise, ShipShape, EasyClear).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook.
