Regional Operations Manager - KZN

About the role

Our client is seeking a Regional Operations Manager to join their team in KwaZulu‑Natal. The successful candidate will ensure service levels meet client expectations through efficient, cost‑effective asset utilisation and effective management of third‑party contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Maximise efficient utilisation of the fleet while remaining within legal boundaries and improving turnaround times.
• Ensure customers receive the expected service level and keep the Sales department informed of any service delays.
• Manage staff, assets and suppliers according to company policies, monitor daily operating indicators and variable costs.
• Maintain depot facilities and assets to acceptable levels, coordinating proactive vehicle servicing with the Maintenance department.
• Maintain and improve cost of sales, continuously reduce operating and overhead costs, and manage forecasting and budgets.
• Coordinate the use of sub‑contractors and participate in assessment and costing for large quotes and tenders.
• Ensure safety and environmental standards (ISO) are maintained and that vehicles and staff comply with legislation such as the Road Traffic Act.
• Measure staff performance, ensure adequate training, and actively participate in shop‑steward, disciplinary and SHEQ meetings.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with a tertiary education or relevant degree, preferably in transport; management qualification is an advantage.
• Minimum of 3 years senior management experience, preferably in the transport industry.
• Experience in financial forecasting and cost control.
• Sound working knowledge of LRA, RTA and Dangerous Goods legislation.
• Strong communication, delegation, networking, conflict management and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure, make independent decisions, lead and motivate teams.
