ICP Technician – ICP-OES / ICP-MS Analyst

About the role

We are looking for detail‑oriented ICP Technicians to operate, maintain and optimise ICP‑OES and/or ICP‑MS instruments in our Johannesburg laboratory. The role supports elemental analysis for quality control, research and client projects within an ISO‑accredited environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate ICP‑OES/ICP‑MS instruments for routine and non‑routine elemental analysis following SOPs.
• Prepare, digest, dilute and analyse samples, ensuring proper chain‑of‑custody.
• Perform calibration, standardisation, performance verification and generate accurate analytical reports.
• Carry out preventive maintenance, troubleshoot instrument issues and coordinate service with vendors.
• Conduct quality control checks (blanks, duplicates, spikes, certified reference materials) and participate in proficiency testing.
• Maintain laboratory documentation, service logs and comply with ISO 17025, GLP and GMP requirements.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Science or related field.
• 2–5 years’ hands‑on experience with ICP‑OES and/or ICP‑MS in a commercial, mining, environmental, pharmaceutical, metallurgical or research laboratory.
• Familiarity with sample digestion techniques and elemental analysis methodologies.
