ICP Specialist

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is hiring an ICP Specialist in Woodmead. The specialist supports Geochem operations across Africa, develops analytical methods, runs complex analyses and acts as Technical Manager under SANAS ISO 17025 requirements. The role involves travel throughout Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Research and develop new ICP methods and procedures to address analytical anomalies, client requests and changing customer needs
• Solve analytical problems in sample preparation, digestion and instrumental troubleshooting, and run sample analysis with complex methods
• Coordinate method development and method validation, and assist with results evaluation
• Accurately perform routine tests following strict SGS methodologies and report results to management and clients
• Train new staff, observe their work and verify competence
• Maintain equipment, participate in proficiency testing, close non-conformances and handle customer complaints
• Determine accreditation requirements, improve workflows and resource use, and ensure staff follow company policies
• Travel throughout Africa and act as Technical Manager in line with SANAS ISO 17025

Required profile

• BSc, M.Sc. Chemistry, PhD in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent, or recognised prior learning
• At least 5 years of work experience in a testing environment or related field
• At least 3 years of method development and validation experience
• English read, speak and write
• Valid driver's licence and passport
• Good understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 and acquaintance with the LIMS system (SLIM)
• Expert working knowledge of the mining and minerals industry
