Human Resources Officer – Pre-opening Hotel

About the role

The Cape Town EDITION Hotel is seeking a proactive Human Resources Officer to support the pre‑opening phase. You will work closely with management and the leadership team to ensure smooth HR operations, from recruitment to employee onboarding.

Key responsibilities

• Assist management and leadership with HR issues and employee relations.
• Support internal and external transfer requests and procedures.
• Monitor hiring processes, ensuring compliance with local laws and company policies.
• Coordinate drug screens, reference checks, background checks, motor vehicle checks, and identity verification.
• Maintain applicant flow, drug‑screen, orientation, and transfer request logs.
• Create and manage new‑hire and personnel files in the HR Information System.
• Facilitate new‑employee orientation and assist with payroll record maintenance.
• Generate HR data reports and maintain filing systems.
• Answer phone calls, record messages, and prepare office correspondence.
• Serve as HR subject‑matter expert on project teams and train new hires on HR processes and systems.

Required profile

• Ability to follow company policies and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
• Professional appearance and clear, courteous communication.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to perform physical tasks such as moving objects up to 5 kg.

Required skills

• Experience using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
