Human Resources Manager

About the role

Kufanikiwa Consulting is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Human Resources Manager with proven experience in the engineering consulting industry. The role provides strategic and operational leadership across the HR function, covering people management, HR governance, legislative compliance and continuous improvement of HR systems. It is based in Westville, Durban, is permanent and reports to the Senior Operations Head / Managing Director.

Key responsibilities

• HR strategy, policies and governance: develop and maintain HR policies, procedures and systems; manage the annual HR plan and budget, workforce planning and organisational structures; advise executive management and monitor HR performance indicators; maintain HR records and document control supporting ISO 9001 audits.
• Recruitment and talent management: manage the employee lifecycle, coordinate succession planning, talent development and retention, and run a performance management system with KPIs and reviews.
• Employee relations: handle grievances, disciplinary matters, misconduct, incapacity and poor performance, coordinate disciplinary hearings and CCMA matters, and ensure compliance with South African labour legislation.
• Employment equity, BBBEE and skills development: manage employment equity plans and reporting, support BBBEE compliance, coordinate training needs analysis and prepare the Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report, and manage SETA requirements.
• HR administration and payroll: oversee employment contracts, personnel files and leave and attendance records, and oversee payroll administration and employee induction, wellness initiatives and exit interviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, Labour Relations, Business Management or a related field.
• At least 8 years of relevant HR experience, including management or senior HR level, with proven experience in the engineering consulting industry.
• Strong working knowledge of South African labour and employment legislation, and practical experience with employment equity, BBBEE and statutory reporting.
• Experience with employee relations, disciplinary hearings, grievances and CCMA matters, as well as recruitment, performance management and skills development.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of payroll administration, remuneration, employee benefits and HR budgeting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.
• Advantageous: postgraduate qualification, registration with a professional HR body, experience in an ISO 9001-certified engineering consulting organisation, and audit and SETA programme support experience.
