HR and Payroll Administrator

About the role

The Human Resources and Payroll Administrator is responsible for accurate, timely salary processing and managing employee lifecycle administration from a payroll perspective. Reporting to the HR Manager and dotted‑line to the Financial Director, you will ensure compliance with South African labour legislation and provide first‑line support for payroll queries.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll, calculate deductions, taxes, bonuses, allowances and overtime.
• Manage casual workers’ timesheets, verify dates and hours, and resolve related queries.
• Maintain employee records in the Pay‑Space system and keep personal documentation confidential.
• Ensure compliance with BCEA, LRA, BCCEI, SARS, UIF, unions and other statutory requirements; prepare reports and assist with audits.
• Act as the primary contact for employee payroll queries.
• Perform general administration tasks such as filing, record keeping, quarterly internal audits, letter generation and absenteeism management across the group.

Required profile

• Previous experience processing payroll on Pay‑Space or similar HR/administration systems.
• Strong knowledge of South African payroll legislation (SARS, PAYE, UIF, SDL, BCEA, LRA).
• Diploma in Human Resources, Accounting or a related field preferred.
• High numeracy, excellent attention to detail and ability to work autonomously under pressure.
