Herbicide Operator – Facilities Management

About the role
The University of the Free State is seeking a dedicated Herbicide Operator to support its Facilities Management team on the Bloemfontein campus. The role involves operating herbicide application equipment, maintaining grounds, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Operate herbicide application equipment and perform general tasks as directed by line management.
- Sign out and return equipment and herbicide supplies daily, maintaining accurate registers.
- Complete equipment inspection reports and ensure they are signed off.
- Clean and maintain equipment and workspaces each day.
- Report equipment breakages, losses, or safety concerns promptly.
- Follow daily program schedules and standard operating procedures for environmental management.
- Assist in keeping the campus grounds tidy and compliant with OHS regulations.
Required profile
- Grade 10 on NQF level 2 (or equivalent).
- Ability to work on-site and follow safety protocols.
- Reliable attendance and ability to report to supervisor daily.
Required skills
- Operation of herbicide application equipment.
- Equipment maintenance and cleaning.
- Accurate record‑keeping for herbicide registers and inspection reports.
