Health & Safety Officer (SACPCMP Registered)

About the role

We are seeking a SACPCMP‑registered Health & Safety Officer to join a leading civil engineering contractor operating across the Cape Province. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the highest safety standards on construction sites, ensuring compliance with legislation and client requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and client specifications.
• Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, toolbox talks and incident investigations.
• Develop, implement and maintain SHE policies, procedures and control measures.
• Monitor contractor compliance, manage PPE, plant and equipment safety, and report defects.
• Maintain accurate H&S documentation, including daily costing, stock records and site measurements.
• Coordinate labour attendance, timekeeping and operator hours.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of Health & Safety experience in civil construction.
• Current SACPCMP registration (non‑negotiable).
• Relevant qualifications and certificates such as First Aid, HIRA, FPPD and Legal Liability.
• Valid driver’s licence and clear criminal record.
• Strong knowledge of SHE legislation, risk assessment methodology and contractor management.
• Excellent administrative, reporting and organisational abilities.
