Health and Safety Officer

About the role

The Health and Safety Officer will ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, company standards, and client requirements across construction projects, workshops, and offices. The role is focused on risk management, inspections, incident control, and fostering a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, maintain and monitor health and safety systems in line with OHS legislation and construction regulations.
• Ensure full compliance with statutory, client and contractual safety requirements across all sites.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses, producing root‑cause analyses and corrective action plans.
• Manage personal protective equipment (PPE) issuance, registers, stock levels and associated costs.
• Prepare, update and keep audit‑ready safety files, inductions, medicals, competency certificates and training records.
• Compile monthly safety reports, track leading and lagging indicators and report trends to management.
• Coordinate safety training, toolbox talks, contractor safety documentation reviews and compliance monitoring.
• Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans, conduct drills and ensure readiness of emergency equipment.
• Monitor environmental risks such as waste management, spills and emissions and ensure compliance with environmental legislation.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of OHS legislation and construction safety regulations.
• Experience investigating incidents and preparing detailed reports.
• Ability to manage PPE programs and maintain accurate registers.
• Proficiency in maintaining SHEQ registers, safety files and audit‑ready documentation.
