Health and Safety Officer – 3‑Month Contract – Vereeniging

About the role

Our client, a leading FMCG and manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join their team in Vereeniging on a three‑month contract. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and company policies within a fast‑paced production environment. The successful candidate will be proactive, detail‑oriented and able to work independently to uphold a safe workplace.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the OHS Act, internal policies and safety standards.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, audits and risk assessments across the site.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses and implement corrective actions.
• Facilitate safety training, toolbox talks and employee awareness programmes.
• Maintain health and safety records, registers and reports, and monitor contractor compliance.
• Support emergency preparedness, response procedures and compliance audits.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) with a National Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
• 2–5 years of health and safety experience in FMCG, manufacturing or similar industrial settings.
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving and organisational abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with safety reporting systems.
