Head of Governance & Internal Audit

About the role

The municipality is looking for a senior professional to lead the Governance & Internal Audit function. The role provides secretarial support to the Audit Committee and ensures a robust control environment across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide secretariat duties to the Audit Committee.
• Manage the Internal Audit Unit, developing three‑year and annual audit plans.
• Review internal audit evaluations and reports, offering guidance to the audit team.
• Report to the statutory Audit Committee on activities, control environment status and corrective actions.
• Oversee performance of outsourced internal audit services and service providers.
• Review institutional performance management systems and departmental objectives.
• Provide internal consultancy and technical support to directorates and departments.
• Develop and maintain the Internal Audit methodology aligned with Global Internal Audit Standards.

Required profile

• Degree in Auditing or Accounting.
• Computer literate.
• Good communication, strategic planning and analytical skills.
• Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence.
• Professional qualification such as CIA or Chartered Accountant (advantageous).
• Eight (8) years of relevant experience with extensive knowledge of financial and non‑financial legislation.
