About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Department for Physical Sciences to provide academic leadership at a high‑school in Durban. The role focuses on driving excellence in the Physical Sciences curriculum and improving learner outcomes, especially at Matric.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Physical Sciences department, setting strategic direction and ensuring high teaching standards.
• Support and mentor educators, overseeing performance management and professional development.
• Monitor and analyse learner performance data to design targeted interventions.
• Oversee curriculum planning, implementation and quality assurance in line with the CAPS framework.
• Engage with learners, parents and school stakeholders to promote a collaborative learning environment.

Required profile

• Relevant teaching qualification with Physical Sciences as a teaching subject.
• SACE registration (essential).
• Minimum 7 years of teaching experience, including proven high‑school and Matric Physical Sciences experience.
• Strong knowledge of the CAPS curriculum.
• Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
