Head of Department – Afrikaans (High School)

About the role

SAHETI School is looking for a qualified Head of Department (HOD) to lead the Afrikaans programme at the high‑school level. The successful candidate will provide academic leadership, ensure excellence in teaching and learning, and uphold the school’s ethos and values.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Afrikaans Department, setting strategic direction and goals.
• Develop, implement and review the Afrikaans curriculum in line with national standards.
• Support, mentor and develop teaching staff within the department.
• Monitor learner achievement and use data to drive improvement.
• Manage departmental resources, scheduling and assessment coordination.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on school‑wide initiatives.

Required profile

• Relevant degree and teaching qualification.
• Proven experience teaching Afrikaans at secondary level.
• Prior leadership or department‑head experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of curriculum design and assessment practices.
• Ability to foster a collaborative and high‑performing team environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Afrikaans language instruction.
