Head of Communications (Africa)

About the role

Greenpeace Africa is seeking a strategic leader to head its Communications function across the continent. Reporting to the Deputy Engagement Director, you will shape public narratives, amplify campaign impact and strengthen the organisation’s media presence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy aligned with campaign priorities and organisational goals.
• Lead media relations, securing coverage, arranging interviews and acting as senior spokesperson when required.
• Oversee the creation of editorial content for both Francophone and Anglophone audiences, including press releases, reports and digital storytelling assets.
• Collaborate with programme, digital and fundraising teams to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
• Guide a team of seven communications professionals, fostering creativity and high‑impact storytelling.
• Manage crisis communications and protect the brand’s reputation in fast‑moving media environments.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in communications, public relations or media within an NGO or advocacy setting.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex environmental and political issues into clear, compelling narratives.
• Strong leadership and team‑management skills, with experience supervising a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; French is a plus.
