Head of Collections – Fintech

About the role

The Head of Collections will lead the collections function for a fast‑growing fintech company in Cape Town. This full‑time, on‑site position is responsible for shaping strategy, optimizing processes and driving performance across all collection portfolios.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement collections policies and end‑to‑end recovery processes.
• Lead, mentor and coach collections teams and managers to meet targets and compliance standards.
• Set performance metrics, monitor results and report portfolio health to senior leadership.
• Collaborate with finance, risk, operations and technology teams to refine credit and collections strategies.
• Analyse portfolio data, identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal compliance frameworks.

Required profile

• Proven experience in debt collection and collections management, preferably in fintech or financial services.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret financial and operational data.
• Demonstrated team‑leadership and coaching skills.
• Solid finance knowledge in short‑term lending, credit risk and portfolio management.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation capabilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or related field; advanced degree or professional certification is a plus.
• Significant senior‑level experience in collections or credit operations leadership.
• Familiarity with collections technologies, CRM systems and relevant regulatory frameworks.
