About the role
The General Worker/Labourer supports the daily operations of Jane Furse Hospital, handling patient transport, laundry management, cleaning and basic maintenance tasks.
Key responsibilities
- Load and offload supplies and equipment.
- Assist artisans and tradesmen aides.
- Transport patients using stretchers or wheelchairs between wards and departments.
- Carry corpses to the mortuary and clean related equipment.
- Record and manage incoming and outgoing linen daily.
- Clean laundry, laundry equipment and maintain hygiene standards.
- Perform general cleaning of offices, passages and ablution facilities.
Required profile
- Minimum Grade 12 certificate or NQF level 4 qualification.
- Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Physical stamina to stand up to 12 hours and lift heavy items.
- Willingness to handle human excreta, fluids and corpses.
Required skills
- Operate heavy‑duty laundry and cleaning equipment.
- Operate lawnmowers and weed eaters.
- Lift and move heavy equipment and supplies safely.
