Full Stack Python Developer

About the role

We are looking for a Full‑Stack Python Developer with strong Flask and front‑end skills to join our software team. This is a hybrid role (one day in the office every two weeks) based in Bryanston. You will work closely with data scientists to incorporate datasets, models, and business logic into clean, reliable, user‑friendly internal web applications that enable business users to make informed decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain Python‑based web applications that expose internal data products and tools.
• Develop fast, responsive front‑ends using HTML, HTMX, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Integrate web apps into existing internal systems via iframes or embedded HTML.
• Collaborate with data scientists to consume datasets (dataframes, SQL tables, APIs) and turn them into usable UI‑driven tools.
• Work with Pandas and SQLAlchemy to transform, filter, and present data.
• Implement asynchronous workflows, background jobs, and long‑running tasks where needed.
• Use Git and GitHub for branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Write SQL queries to retrieve and join data from pre‑built datasets.
• Manage deployment basics, running Flask apps behind production servers such as nginx, gunicorn, or waitress.
• Implement logging and monitoring to ensure reliability and diagnose issues.
• Apply security best practices, including session management and input validation.
• Design clean layouts, intuitive forms, and efficient user flows.
• Contribute to documentation (README, setup guides, user guides).
• Write and maintain basic unit and integration tests for critical logic.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional development experience or an equivalent portfolio.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong Python experience, especially building RESTful back‑ends with Flask and working with pandas dataframes.
• Solid front‑end skills: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and HTMX.
• Experience with asynchronous concepts in Python or JavaScript (asyncio, task queues, background jobs).
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub for collaborative development.
• Basic SQL skills and ability to write queries against relational data.
• Understanding of running Flask applications in production environments (nginx, gunicorn, waitress).
• Security awareness, including session handling, permissions, and secure coding practices.
• Ability to design clean, functional user interfaces for internal tools.
