Freight Forwarding Estimator / Pricing Controller

About the role

We are a leading South African freight forwarding and logistics provider seeking an experienced Freight Forwarding Estimator / Pricing Controller. You will create accurate, competitive quotations across air, sea, road and multimodal services, ensuring they are commercially sound and operationally feasible.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare end‑to‑end freight quotations for air, sea, road and multimodal shipments.
• Obtain and negotiate rates with shipping lines, airlines, transporters, overseas agents and other service providers.
• Calculate full origin‑to‑destination costs, including freight, handling, customs and destination charges.
• Select practical routings and apply Incoterms correctly.
• Review client RFQs to ensure all cost components are covered.
• Maintain tariffs, buying rates and supplier information in the CRM system.
• Liaise with sales, operations, customs and finance teams while developing solutions.
• Follow up on quotations, analyse conversion rates and support lost‑opportunity reviews.
• Ensure quotations are professionally presented and issued within required turnaround times.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience in freight forwarding estimation, pricing or costing.
• Hands‑on experience with air and sea freight; road freight knowledge is a plus.
• Strong understanding of import, export and cross‑trade movements.
• Good knowledge of Incoterms, freight documentation and customs‑related cost components.
• Proven ability to negotiate rates with carriers and agents.
• Excellent numerical ability, attention to detail and capacity to work under pressure.
• Competence in Microsoft Excel and experience with CargoWise One.
