Food Technologist

About the role

We are looking for a Food Technologist to ensure safe, consistent and high-quality food production while maintaining compliance with food safety systems, quality standards and health & safety requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Serve on the Food Safety Team, monitoring hygiene, housekeeping, 5S and clean-as-you-go standards.
• Investigate and resolve microbiological, quality, supplier, shelf-life and customer non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Conduct internal, supplier, GMP, PRP, food fraud, food defence and facility audits and follow up on findings.
• Verify QC and GMP activities, product conformity, packaging checks, date coding, weight verification, glass inspections and temperature monitoring.
• Perform microbiological and analytical testing on raw materials, finished products and packaging.
• Manage incoming material inspection, sampling, COA verification and hold stock when required.
• Compile QC reports, perform trend analysis and maintain electronic records for non-conformances and document control.
• Implement, review and risk-assess HACCP plans and ensure the Food Safety & Quality Management System complies with FSSC 22000.
• Lead allergen control programmes, traceability exercises, mock recalls and root-cause investigations.
• Provide induction and food-safety training and support NPD projects from trial to documentation.

Required profile

• Grade 12 and a tertiary qualification in Food Technology, Biotechnology or Consumer Science.
• Previous experience in a production and quality environment, preferably food manufacturing.
• Knowledge of FSSC 22000 (or equivalent) and HACCP principles.
• Strong technical ability and attention to detail.
