Fitters Manager

About the role

Our client in Cape Town is seeking a Fitters Manager to lead the fitting department. The role is responsible for ensuring that all mechanical equipment, machinery and plant operate efficiently, safely and reliably through effective maintenance planning and team leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and manage routine, planned and preventative maintenance programmes for all machinery and equipment.
• Monitor team quality and efficiency, and oversee mechanical inspections on production machinery.
• Manage critical breakdowns, conduct investigations and forecast future issues.
• Assist employees with fault finding and oversee servicing of mechanical components.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date inventory of critical spare parts and liaise with suppliers for quality parts.
• Estimate repair costs and time, and ensure equipment checks comply with the department Safety File.
• Ensure compliance with legal, company and health & safety regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Qualified Mechanical Fitter with Red Seal Trade Test certificate or higher qualification.
• At least 10 years of experience in a similar heavy‑industry role.
• Minimum 5 years of proven management experience.
• Physically fit, able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to work overtime when required.

Required skills

• Extensive knowledge of power tools.
• Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel.
• Experience using an electronic maintenance system.
• Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Act compliance.
