Financial Controller - AGL Terminals

About the role

AGL South Africa, part of Africa Global Logistics, is looking for a Financial Controller for its Cape Town Terminals branch. The role oversees all financial and accounting activities, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and compliance with internal and external regulations. It is a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in line with accounting standards, and oversee month-end and year-end close.
• Analyse financial performance, identify trends and variances, and give management detailed reports and insights.
• Lead budgeting with department heads, develop forecasts, monitor performance against budget and assist in long-term financial planning.
• Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and accounting standards, and implement internal controls; coordinate with internal and external auditors.
• Oversee cash flow and working capital (accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory) and assess financial risks.
• Improve financial processes, recommend cost-saving measures and drive adoption of new financial software.
• Lead and mentor the finance team, run performance reviews and foster a collaborative environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field; a CPA, CA or similar certification is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in financial management, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Experience in a logistics, shipping or terminal operations environment is highly preferred.
• Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders and to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.
