Finance Department Vacancies – Payroll Accountant, Senior Clerk, PMU Accountant

About the role

The Thembelihle Local Municipality’s Finance Department is seeking qualified professionals for three permanent positions: Payroll Accountant, Senior Accounting Clerk (Supply Chain Management) and Project Management Unit (PMU) Accountant. These roles support the municipality’s financial operations, payroll processing and procurement activities.

Key responsibilities

• Administer payroll processing, statutory deductions and third‑party payments, and prepare related financial reports.
• Manage council expenditure, multi‑year budgeting and cash‑flow reporting for projects and grants.
• Provide clerical and procurement support, validate goods receipt, facilitate tender processes and maintain acquisition records.
• Prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and compile statutory financial statements in line with the Division of Revenue Act.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with a relevant three‑year tertiary qualification (National Diploma or B‑Com) in financial accounting.
• For Payroll Accountant: 2–5 years of payroll experience; for Senior Clerk: 0–2 years of relevant experience; for PMU Accountant: relevant experience in municipal finance.
• Computer literacy with MS Office; knowledge of the Payday payroll system is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Familiarity with the Payday payroll system (preferred).
