Field Service Engineer

About the role

Damen Services is seeking a proactive Field Service Engineer to join its Service Hub in Cape Town. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing ship systems worldwide, ensuring vessels operate at peak performance while providing training and support to customers and shipyards.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, overhaul and install mechanical, electrical and process engineering equipment on Damen and third‑party vessels.
• Support local shipyards during operational commissioning and ship hand‑over.
• Deliver training to third parties on ship operation, use and maintenance.
• Prepare administrative documentation and project reports.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of relevant field service experience.
• Independent problem‑solver with strong customer focus.
• Good command of English; additional French, Portuguese or Arabic is a plus.
• MBO working and thinking level, WTB trained.

Required skills

• Hydraulics and pneumatics systems.
• Electrical engineering, including installations and control/PLC systems.
• Pressure equipment and internal combustion engines.
• Safety systems such as gas detection, ESD and mechanical pressure protection.
• Inspection, testing and maintenance procedures.
