Field Operator – Utilities

About the role

Sappi is looking for a Field Operator – Utilities to support the Process Controller in the safe and efficient operation of boilers, power stations and auxiliary plants. The role involves hands‑on work in a high‑temperature industrial environment, ensuring plant cleanliness and reliable performance.

Key responsibilities

• Open and close manual and bypass valves according to start‑up, shutdown and normal operating procedures.
• Assist the Process Controller with pipework change‑over, flushing and isolation tasks.
• Monitor coal bunker levels, record water meter readings and conduct boiler water sampling.
• Operate soot blowers, clean hydro seals, and perform baghouse and TFR section checks.
• Maintain boiler firebeds, clear ash clinkers, and manage ash spillages around conveyors.
• Grease and perform first‑line maintenance on stokers, replace stoker belts and clear jammed equipment.
• Operate a forklift for material handling as required.
• Execute isolation procedures and record weight measurements for coal loading.

• Willingness to work in a shift‑based, physically demanding environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with foremen and process controllers.
