External Sales Representative – Packaging Consumables

About the role

The role is a permanent external sales position based in Pietermaritzburg, focusing on packaging consumables for retail, butchery, hospitality, catering and FMCG sectors. You will be responsible for generating new business, expanding existing accounts and driving profitable growth while spending most of your time on the road.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and secure new business opportunities across retail, butchery, hospitality and FMCG sectors.
• Grow sales within existing accounts by building strong relationships and expanding product usage.
• Conduct regular customer visits and route planning throughout Pietermaritzburg and surrounding regions.
• Manage pricing, quotations and negotiations to achieve profitable growth.
• Monitor competitor activity and market trends, providing feedback to internal teams.

Required profile

• Proven external sales experience in packaging, FMCG, food service or wholesale.
• Track record of new business development and meeting sales targets.
• Self‑motivated, target‑driven and able to work independently.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
• Valid driver’s licence and computer literacy.
