Environmental Intern

About the role

Afrimat Industries (Pty) Ltd, Lichtenburg Operations is looking for a full-time Environmental Intern. The intern supports the Environmental Department across both operations, helping with monitoring, data, compliance and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with routine environmental monitoring and sampling across both sites.
• Collect, capture and maintain environmental data, monitoring results and EMS records.
• Take part in site inspections and compliance checks and report non-conformances.
• Help implement and track corrective and preventive actions.
• Support the development, review and updating of EMS documentation.
• Help with environmental awareness activities and training coordination.
• Prepare draft environmental reports for internal and external compliance reporting.
• Support audit preparation, evidence collection and tracking of audit findings to closure.
• Monitor environmental permit and licence conditions and keep compliance records.
• Provide general administrative and operational support to the Environmental Department.
• Comply with SHE requirements, complete mandatory training, use PPE correctly and report hazards and incidents.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
• Basic understanding of environmental management principles.
• Willingness to learn and take part in site-based activities across both operations.
• Analytical thinking and numerical ability to interpret basic monitoring results and spot unusual ones.
• Technical writing and presentation skills, turning observations and data into concise summaries, reports and simple presentations.
• Problem-solving and teamwork, working respectfully with operational teams and service providers.

Required skills

• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel for data capturing and reporting.
• Basic Excel formulas, sorting, filtering and charts; checking records for missing or inconsistent information.
• ISO 14001 understanding is an added advantage.
