Semi‑Skilled Environmental Monitor (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The Semi‑Skilled Environmental Monitor will support natural resource management and monitoring activities within Bontebok National Park on a fixed‑term contract until 31 March 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with implementation and monitoring of indigenous and invasive fauna and flora projects, soil erosion control and rehabilitation management.
• Collect and record field data, perform mapping, density estimations and species identification.
• Support EPWP contracting teams by monitoring progress, standards and quality of work.
• Carry out administrative duties such as filing, timesheets, logbooks and reporting.
• Participate in foot and vehicle patrols, enforce environmental legislation, monitor visitor behaviour and assist with fire management activities.

Required profile

• Matric/Grade 12 or NC(V) Level 4.
• South African citizenship, age 18‑35 years.
• Preference for persons with disabilities and applicants from communities within 40 km of the park.
• Clear criminal record and ability to pass a medical fitness assessment.
• Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and occasional overtime.

Required skills

• Basic computer competency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Driver’s licence.
