Enrolled Nurse - Mental Health Ward

About the role

Netcare, through its specialist mental health division Akeso, is hiring an Enrolled Nurse for its Gqeberha facility. The role sits within a multidisciplinary care team delivering psychiatric and general medical care, working under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or the Nursing Unit Manager. It suits someone comfortable acting as either a shift leader or a core support member, and as a role model who protects the dignity and privacy of patients.

Key responsibilities

• Implement care programmes set by the RN, manage patient assessment and care, and develop and evaluate nursing programmes
• Allocate tasks to Enrolled Nurse Auxiliaries (ENAs) and Health Care Workers and ensure thorough shift handovers
• Maintain a sterile, hazard-free environment, manage medical waste per protocol, and keep ward equipment clean, stored and functional
• Control and account for medical consumables and medication, and verify that patients are billed correctly for ward stock
• Take part in quality improvement programmes and committee meetings such as infection control and health and safety

Required profile

• Registered with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse; registration must be up to date
• Strong understanding of scope of practice in a mental health setting
• Professional conduct, confidentiality and ethical standards, even under pressure
• Proactive planning, adaptability to change and confidence to delegate duties to subordinates
