Engineering Lead – Hybrid (Johannesburg)

About the role

This permanent Engineering Lead position is based in Johannesburg and offers a competitive total compensation of up to R1.4 million per year. You will own the engineering direction of a corporate benefits platform that is undergoing a major cloud modernisation and digital transformation for a leading South African financial services institution.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive architecture alignment, engineering standards and software quality across the organisation.
• Accelerate DevOps, CI/CD, test automation and deployment automation practices while supporting cloud adoption.
• Lead, mentor and develop software engineers, reducing operational risk through platform stability, observability and automation.
• Provide technical leadership to cross‑functional delivery teams throughout the transformation.

Required profile

• Proven senior software engineering leadership experience.
• Strong full‑stack engineering background with hands‑on development capability.
• Experience with Azure cloud engineering (preferred) and secure software development practices.
